When Java was first created by Sun Microsystems in 1995, it was the end-all and be-all of programming languages. After having trouble setting up my selection of CH joysticks to work with X-Plane on my Gentoo Linux based laptop, I did some research. It seems that the issue is a well known one: on 64 bit Linux systems, joystick control events are not passed through to 32 bit applications. And X-Plane is such - a closed source application, available in 32 bit binaries only.
Despite the issue being raised earlier on the linux-kernel list, this was not yet fixed in the kernel. So I posted a patch again, hoping for the best.
